INDOT Receives Record of Decision

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved the Record of Decision for the US 31 Hamilton County project on Feb. 11, 2009. The ROD is a determination by FHWA that the project has passed the environmental review process. The ROD allows INDOT to proceed with final design, right of way negotiations/purchases and permitting. Construction is expected to begin in 2011.

About the Project

The project will upgrade US 31 to freeway standards from I-465 to SR 38. Once complete, there will be new interchanges between 96th St. at the Marion-Hamilton county line to 216th St. in Westfield. The purpose of this project is to reduce congestion, improve safety and provide for the reliable and efficient movement of commerce and regional travel. This project is part of Governor Mitch Daniels' larger Major Moves project to upgrade US 31 from Indianapolis to South Bend.
